Sunday 15 March - Smock Alley Theatre
Something different this weekend: Dublin Sketchers have been granted permission to meet inside Smock Alley Theatre on Wood Quay.
Smock Alley is the oldest theatre in Ireland or Britain and is one of Dublin’s lesser known gems. It dates back to the 1662 and retains many of its original features, making it one of the most important sites in European theatre history. Read more about Smock Alley here. http://smockalley.com/
We will meet at the entrance to the theatre at 2pm. Smock Alley is not usually open on a Sunday so you may have to knock on the door and ask someone to let you in. The staff will be expecting us.
The venue includes three performance spaces and an impressive Banquet Hall – plenty of stuff to inspire you. The “Main Space” theatre will be available to us from 3pm while the Banquet Hall is free all day. There will be some rehearsals taking place in the “Boys School” space and we are welcome to observe them as long as we don’t get in the way.
Smock Alley are delighted that we are coming. The events manager is interested in perhaps using some of our work for their own promotional purposes or on social media. It is up to each sketcher to decide for themselves if they are happy to share their work in this way, but I think it would be nice to give them something back by way of a thank you. They will of course give full credit for your work.
We will leave the theatre at 4pm and head towards the Queen of Tarts café on Cows Lane for refreshments and a chat. Hopefully we’ll have a good turn-out for what is a great chance to see something really special.
Hope to see you there
