Sunday 4th May The CHQ Building

This week we are going to the CHQ building just beyond the IFSC, Meet at the front entrance facing the river and the Sean O'Casey pedestrian bridge at 2pm. Here's a map...

http://chq.ie/contacts-page/

then afterwards at 4pm in the Harbour Master Bar at the far end of the dock nearest Connolly Station for Coffee or maybe more! Here's another map...

http://harbourmaster.ie/m/intl/en/

The CHQ building is right on the riverfront with so many great things to draw on the doorstep if the sun is out and if it's not, there's a huge glass wall to look out through with free comfy seating. The building itself is really interesting too, check it out...

"The CHQ building – previously known as Stack A was built as a tobacco store with vaults beneath to store wine. It was designed by one of the most remarkable engineers of his era, the Scot John Rennie. Everything about the CHQ building is unusual. It is one of the few dockland warehouses protected under the Planning Acts. It is steeped in local history and traditionally locals knew it as the ‘Banquet Hall’ because it was the venue for one of the great social events of the mid-nineteenth century, the Crimean War banquet."

This week's optional challenge is to draw something funny!

If you haven't been before keep your eyes open for anyone carrying a sketch book and come and say hello. Don't worry if you're late, most of us usually are!

Hope to see you there!

Sketching @Chapelizod Village this Sunday (13th April)

On Sunday 13th of April the Dublin Sketchers are going to Chapelizod village (just beyond Islandbridge/ Beside Phoenix park

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapelizod

Buses: 66/67/25/26/66b/66a etc takes 15/20 minutes from the city and come every 5/10mins(from merrion square)/ Westmoreland st/ the Southside Quays
Interesting buildings in the village include the church of St Laurence (Church of Ireland) with its medieval bell tower. The fine Georgian house where Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu wrote stands at the corner of Park Lane facing Main Street in front of the church. The renovated old RIC barracks on Main Street predates the old Constabulary, serving as an army barracks from the reign of William and Mary.
The Kings House, a Royal Residence built and maintained by and used as an out of town residence by the Viceroy the Duke of Ormond, faced the millrace from the southside of the westbound highway opposite the Mullingar House.
The village is the setting of James Joyce's short story A Painful Case from Dubliners. It is the setting as well as the scene of the home and hostelry of the protagonist Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker, his wife Anna Livia Plurabelle, and their family Shaun, Shem and Issy in Joyce's final major work, Finnegans Wake.

We'll meet at 2pm at Mullingar House in the center of the Village and back here again for coffee at 4pm. There is a pedestrian Entrance to phoenix park accessible from the village and there is also a lovely view of the liffey from the bridge opposite mullingar house (bring colours if you like). The Church of Ireland has a 14th century bell tower is interesting to draw along with some of the period houses in the village adjacent to the Liffey. There is also the chapelizod end of the war memorial gardens.

This week's optional challenge is to draw the Liffey

If you've not been before, you'll spot us easily as we'll be holding our sketch pads. Don't worry if you're late - just get stuck in with the drawing.

Hope to see you there!

Sketching at Heuston station this Sunday (the 6th)

On Sunday 6th of April the Dublin Sketchers are going to Heuston Station.
The station opened on 4 August 1846[1] as the terminus and headquarters of the Great Southern and Western Railway (GS&WR). It was originally called Kingsbridge Station from the nearby Kings Bridge over the Liffey, but was renamed in 1966 after Sean Heuston, an Easter Rising leader who had worked in the station offices.

We'll meet at 2pm at the main entrance

This week's optional challenge is to draw one of the trains.

If you've not been before, you'll spot us easily as we'll be holding our sketch pads. Don't worry if you're late - just get stuck in with the drawing.

We'll meet at one of the not so busy cafes inside afterwards.

Hope to see you there!
