Sunday 2nd March - 2pm Museum on Kildare Street, 4pm Kilkenny Shop Coffee Shop

On Sunday 2nd of March Dublin Sketchers are going to the National Museum on Kildare Street. This is where the gold, bog bodies and Egyptian stuff is, not where the dead animals are (they are round the corner on Merrion Square).

Oh, actually, the proper name for it is The Archaeology and Ethnography Museum, which fairly rolls off the tongue.

We'll meet at 2pm in the front reception area

This week's optional challenge is to draw something from an unusual angle, or make an unusual composition by cropping something (eg, make half a vase fill your page)

If you've not been before, you'll spot us easily as we'll be holding our sketch pads. Don't worry if you're late - just get stuck in with the drawing.

We'll meet again at 4pm in the Kilkenny Shop on Nassau Street - they have a coffee shop upstairs. We'll enjoy looking at each other's work.

And finally - making Dublin Sketchers happen...

.. A big thank you to Melanie for arranging the locations for Dublin Sketchers for the month of February. This year, we're aiming to have a different person arranging the locations for each month. Hopefully, we'll end up in some wonderful and stimulating locations as we explore Dublin through sketching. We've had a few people offer to do a month, which is great. Do email if you'd like to contribute 15 minutes of your life once a week for a month to make Dublin Sketchers happen.

Sketches from Stephens Green Shopping Centre

The challenge was to copy someone else's sketching style, or draw the arch. It was lovely sitting gazing out the window capturing the hubbub of the city below.

Thanks to Melanie for arranging the locations for Dublin Sketchers for the month of February. In March, Jessica will be sending us here, there and everywhere. Do give her ideas!

On Sunday 23rd of February We're going to The Kylemore Cafe on the top of Stephen's Green Shopping Centre.

We'll meet at 2pm in the Cafe

This week's challenge is to draw the arch on Stephen's Green using another sketcher's style, or indeed a famous artist's style

If you've not been before, you'll spot us easily as we'll be holding our sketch pads. Don't worry if you're late - just get stuck in with the drawing.

A couple of people each week kindly photograph everyone's work to put on the blog. Please help them out by PUTTING YOUR NAME on your sketch book or on EACH sketch you do! If you've got a camera and fancy helping out with photographing folks work - just get snapping on Sundays! You can either post them on www.dublinsketchers.com or email them to dublinsketchers@gmail.com and someone else can post them for you.

Hope to see you there!

Dublin Sketchers is nearly 6 years old! What can YOU do to keep it going?!

Yes, Dublin Sketchers is nearly 6 years old.... A simple, yet wonderful, concept..... Pick a location for a Sunday afternoon sketch... invite other people and..... sketch.

So, do you want to volunteer to choose the locations for a month? And invite other people. It's very easy! Email dublinsketchers @ gmail dot com to help out and keep Dublin Sketchers going!

Sketches from the RHA

Lots of interesting sketches at the RHA at the weekend. Some people faced the challenge of movement, some faced the challenge of sketching outside, others faced the challenge of the art on the walls, while others opted for the coffee shop for inspiration! Apologies for the hazy photos - the light wasn't so good in the pub! The chat was though!

Sketches from the Chester Beatty

Here's what we got up to at the Chester Beatty Library, before we took over the coffee shop!

Sunday 16th February we'll meet at the RHA at 2pm, and Toner's Pub at 4pm (see the post below this one for full details, and the weekly optional challenge!)

Sun 16th February RHA

On Sunday 16th of February We're going to RHA Gallery on Ely Place

The website is http://www.rhagallery.ie/

We'll meet at 2pm in the foyer

This week's challenge (If you choose to accept it!) is to draw something you see in the Gallery and then draw it if you found it in different conditions e.g. if it was melted, or under water or compressed. Think of Salvador Dalis melted watches!
But that's completely optional of course.

If you've not been before, you'll spot us easily as we'll be holding our sketch pads. Don't worry if you're late - just get stuck in with the drawing.

We'll meet again at 4pm in Toner's Pub for a coffee/tea/drink. We'll enjoy looking at each other's sketch pads over a drink.

From Sunday 2nd Feb at the Hugh Lane Gallery

For the Chinese New Year, our weekly challenge was to use red or incorporate horses into our sketches. As usual, some rose the challenge, while others ignored in completely and did their own thing!
